Chef Robert Kelty and his wife, Chef Rebecca Kelty, met while working at the private 5-star Everglades Club in Palm Beach, Florida. Robert was coming from his apprenticeship in Bakersfield, California. Rebecca was right out of culinary school in Kitchener, Ontario as a saucier. Both worked together in the extensive bakery at the Homestead Hotel in Hot Springs, Virginia, Robert as the patissier. Six months later they were off to new places in their professional life together. Their journey took them to fabulous 5-star hotels and multiple exciting competitions where they placed and won against many highly skilled chefs. The Keltys were lucky to stay together as a team as they honed their skills and worked under master chefs at 5-star hotels in the U.S..
Then came positions for Robert as Exec. Pastry Chef at the Clarion Hotel in Colorado Springs, and then the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver. Chef Robert Kelty accepted a position as a Pastry Chef instructor at the Colorado Institute of Art, and remained there for several years. Rebecca and Robert started their family and both took another apprenticeship with master chocolatier Johannes Bush at Nouvelle Chocolat.
The highlight of this 28 year collaboration was the opening of Alpine Pastries in 1995; the Kelty’s very own shop, located in Evergreen, CO. The couple is most proud of all their years together as well as their two wonderful children, Jenna and Garrett. Chef Robert is the creative genius behind Alpine Pastries, and Chef Rebecca is the primary technical and production Mastermind.
